Steam Launch Preparations

Preparing for the Steam Launch

The PSx look is very popular here on Itch, there is no doubt about that.  We're not sure the same can be said for Steam-so I'm really trying to lean into the whole retro thing. We have to make sure people are aware that this look is intended!

Hi, taxicomics here. Today I want to talk about the Steam Store Page. The Boxart will be front and center, and even though it ain't final yet I have to put up SOMETHING on the Store page. So i got to work and found a great Asset to help me with that. I hope it conveys the retro feel so people know what look to expect.

I got the inspiration because of a game I made for a friends' bachelor thesis. It was a slenderman clone in which they had to collect/write the last 10 pages of their thesis. While the game was okay the real star of the show was the physical CD-Case I made for it.  Putting that design in a real case made it feel great - and it made people want to play it!

Once we've come up with a final design for "Housekeeping to Room 501" we'll definitely  also do a physical version. At least for our own shelves.

Whilst doing research on the games that I liked I saw the value of .gifs in place of static images in Steam descriptions. Seeing what they were describing brought me a lot closer to wanting to play a game, so that is what we're going to do to. I've recorded a few short not too spoiler-y videos and made sure they fit in with the rest of the description.

The big caveat

We're painfully  aware that we can't rely on a nice Steam store page alone to show our game to people. Ghostist, our previous title, sold as many times as it did because of Streamers and Youtubers featuring it! It has been incredible for us to see our game being played and seeing peoples' reactions.

So we're really hoping to be able to get some Videos on this. Which is also why we already have a demo up. If you have more tips on how to spread the word or you'd like to help us feel free to reach out to us!
